VALUE PACKED FULL SUSPENSION WITH CLASS LEADING FEATURES.

Stratos AL 5.0 is the right XC mountain bike for the first time full suspension buyer for recreational riding. Silverback's POP geometry makes it a strong climber and a balanced confident descender. The linkage driven asymmetric single-pivot suspension is tuned for optimal small bump sensitivity and big-hit compliance without power delivery penalties. The suspension curve is designed to offer full use of available travel. The Stratos AL 5.0 uses the same frame as the AL 1.0. Based on the ground-breaking Stratos CF race-machine, but adapted to offer a more value-focused, mild-mannered bike for the everyday rider. New to mountain biking, or first full-suspension bike; trails, XC or marathon, the Stratos AL 5.0 is designed to take care of business.

ASYMMETRIC FRAME

Asymmetric tubes allow for the dispersion of shock forces between the top tube and downtube. At the riding sag point most of the shock forces are directed along the top tube. At suspension bottom-out, the rear shock rotates and shock forces are split between the top tube and downtube via the single sided support strut.

SMOOTH WELDS

Get the great looks and smooth lines of carbon fibre, without the cost implications.

WHY IT’S BEST.

  1. Stratos AL5 shares the innovative alloy frame found on the AL1. The asymmetric shape, smooth welds and cable routing really has to be seen up close to appreciate the amount of detail that has gone into the design.
  2. The AL5 is the value packed entry into the full suspension sphere. The BURST Pivot suspension platform is the same over the AL range, so on the 5, you get the same characteristics and behaviour that you get on the top of the range AL1.
  3. AL5 is a wide range 1x10 speed bike with a range wider than that of 11speed bikes of just a few years back. 10 speed is easier to index and will be smoother for longer than comparative 11 or 12 speed gear setups, thus perfect for new riders, or riders that's not technically minded in regards to product maintenance. Also a 1x setup is simplistic to use, meaning more pedaling and less thinking.
  4. The Rockshox suspension fork and Xfusion rear shock is easy to set up, even for novice riders and offer smooth, predictable and capable suspension movement to soak up bumps. The suspension kinematics also means a well supported pedaling bike - easy to climb, even with the suspension open, that won't just soak up your energy, but actually propel you forward.
  5. Dropper compatibility means that whenever you want to upgrade - the frame is ready for it.
  6. Surface Tubeless ready alloy wheels are pre-taped to make a tubeless conversion quick and pain free.

ENGINEERING NOTES.

1X DRIVETRAIN SPECIFIC DESIGN

Front derailleurs are dead. With that comes a wider main pivot bearing stance for increased stiffness.

BURST PIVOT SUSPENSION

BURST Pivot is the XC/Light Trail implementation of our popular BURST platforms. It combines great pedaling performance with a progressive endstroke to create a platform that reacts intuitively to different circumstances. Large bearings in the seatstay mounted pivots, near the dropouts, ensure a good service life.

DROPPER POST READY/COMPATIBLE

With dropper posts becoming standard on all disciplines of mountain biking, this was a no-brainer; what's more interesting is where this technology is headed. Stratos can accommodate much longer droppers, giving the rider more options and freedom of movement.

METRIC SHOCK

Metric shocks perform better and have optional bearing hardware for low friction rotation, supported on the rocker side.

POP GEOMETRY ADAPTED FOR XC/TRAIL/MARATHON

As modern XCO and XCM courses become more technical, we've adapted the bikes to suit not only the current trails, but also where XC is headed. Slacker head angles and longer wheelbases, along with other geometry and suspension tweaks allow for a bike that is more capable and forgiving on the downhills, but does not sacrifice any uphill ability in the process. Stratos AL has 120mm travel and has some geometry changes that give a slightly more relaxed ride that its carbon fibre counterpart, aimed at riders looking to spend longer days in the saddle or dabble in trail riding.

SHEATHED CABLE ROUTING

All the looks of internal cable routing, but without the hassle. Cables run underneath a polyurethane sheath on the downtube, which hides the cables but can still be removed for ease of maintenance.

SMOOTH WELDS

Get the great looks and smooth lines of carbon fibre, without the cost implications.

TAPERED PIVOT AND BEARING DETAILS

The massive main pivot uses angular contact headset bearings, with the larger 52mm bearing used on the drive side to cope with the additional chain forces. The angular contact design allows for bearing wear to be tightened out - the same as would be done at the headtube.

TWO BOTTLE MOUNTS IN THE MAIN TRIANGLE

When is comes to water bottles, two is definitely better than one.

FAQ.

  • Is the Stratos AL 5 compatable with an internal dropper seatpost?

Yes, the Statos AL 5 allows for an interally routed dropper seatpost.

  • If I wanted to route my cables internally, can I drill a tiny hole on the frame to fit the cables through?

No, drilling wholes in your frame will void your warranty.

  • What is the weight limit on this bike?
  • What bearings does this frame use?

Stratos uses headset bearings in the main pivot. These are Token C83-TBT bearings. Contact your local Silverback distributor for more info.

  • Why does this frame not have a flex stay like Stratos CF?

Aluminium has a limited fatigue life, meaning that it will always fatigue eventually. By using a bearing at the rear pivot instead of relying on frame flex, we can greatly extend the life of your frame. Since carbon fiber can be designed for indefinite fatigue life, we can be confident that Stratos CF will not fail by fatigue.

  • What maintenance do IGUS bushings require?

Intermittent cleaning is the only maintenace IGUS bushings require. Ensure they are dry and clean of dust with a paper towel. Do not grease IGUS bushings since this will attract dust - IGUS bushings are self-lubricating and do not need to be greased.

  • Can I put a front derailleur of Stratos AL?

No. The entire Stratos range is designed with wide range 1x drivetrains in mind. This allows for wider bearing stances and a stiffer frame
